Are Celebrities Ruining Twitter? PDF Print E-mail
Ashton Kutcher (aka @aplusk), has over one million and only follows back 93.  Oprah has almost half a million followers and follows back 10.  Oprah has only sent 4 @replies – ever – and they where to other celebrities.  Most of us “regular” folks use twitter to say connected to EACH OTHER, but Celebs seem to use it as an another PR Machine, new ammunition for their publicists'.  When Ashton was competing with CNN for one million followers, he claimed he was doing it “for the people” and “for the net”.  It seems more to me like he was doing it for his ego.  Whats the point of a million followers, if you aren't engaging them in meaningful conversation, and following back?

Twitter Hashtags: What are they and how do you use them? PDF Print E-mail

Hashtags are words, acronyms, or short phrases prefixed with a #.   Keywords in your Tweets may be tagged using hashtags, such as #money for example.  This enables tweets on a specific subject to be found by simply searching for their common hashtag, provided that the user has tagged his or her tweet.  This is one of the reasons why Twitter is quickly becoming a recognized real-time news service!  People can quickly and easily find and read relevant updates of the specific topics are searching for.
